All About GO
GO
GO (Gorebridge Opportunities) was established in 2002 by a group of local adults as a result of local young people in a church youth group voicing their concerns about youth provision in Gorebridge.
GO works with and for local young people to achieve our 2 main aims:
(1) to provide opportunities, events, activities and courses for local 11-18 year olds and
2) to provide the young people of Gorebridge with a dedicated youth facility.
We give opportunities to young people that they wouldn't otherwise get, empowering and encouraging them to lead fulfilling lives. This raises their expectations and therefore likelihood of achieving, a more positive future. Our work has long term benefits. Health education in drugs, alcohol and child care reduces long term health risks and costs.
Being involved in the planning, promotion & delivery of courses, activities & events, the young people take ownership of the activity & feel part of their community. This gives them, an increase in self esteem & a respect for what they are planning. They can enhance skills they are already aware of or in many cases, discovery hidden talents.
For some this may be the first opportunity that they get to voice their thoughts or views in an environment that they are comfortable with. They are encouraged to not only be a GO user but to plan what GO does in the future.
The young people & their community also benefit from a decrease in anti social behaviour and improved cross generational relationships.
We at GO believe in the young people of our area.
